Wondering how your online rating compares to official over-the-board ratings?
We analyzed thousands of player profiles to help you understand exactly how Chess.com, Lichess, USCF, and FIDE ratings stack up.

Chess.com vs. FIDE and USCF (Table 1)

Key Rating Trends in 2025 (Table 1 Updates)

The biggest changes this year to Table 1 are:

  1. Fewer players in our dataset are currently active USCF members.
  2. USCF ratings have risen relative to Chess.com blitz ratings, especially for players under 1700. In fact, players rated under 1200 in blitz now have USCF ratings over 100 points higher on average!

USCF Ratings

  • For players under 1500, USCF ratings tend to be 100–150 points higher than Chess.com blitz.
  • Between 1500 and 1800, the ratings begin to converge.
  • Above 1800, Chess.com blitz ratings gradually become higher than USCF.

FIDE Ratings

  • FIDE’s recent rating adjustments are now clearly impacting comparisons:
  • At the low end, FIDE ratings can be hundreds of points higher than Chess.com blitz.
  • Ratings converge around 1800.
  • Above 1900, FIDE ratings tend to be lower than Chess.com blitz ratings.

Rapid & Bullet Comparisons

  • Bullet ratings are consistently slightly lower than blitz across all levels.
  • Rapid ratings usually start higher than blitz, with a breakeven point around 2000 where blitz catches up.
  • Interestingly, rapid ratings now track more closely to USCF than blitz ratings do.

This analysis is based on:

  • ✅ Over 9,000 Chess.com player profiles
  • ✅ 1,200+ FIDE and USCF player profiles
  • ✅ All players were active in both systems for accuracy

Lichess Ratings vs. FIDE and USCF (Table 3)

How do Lichess.org ratings compare to official over-the-board (OTB) ratings like USCF and FIDE?

We created this table by combining the data from Tables 1 and 2 to map Lichess ratings directly to OTB equivalents.

Here’s what we found:

  • Lichess ratings are generally higher than USCF and FIDE ratings across all time controls.
  • The rating gaps increased for bullet and classical, but decreased for blitz and rapid.
  • For example, a Lichess rapid rating of 1800 maps to roughly 1400 USCF or 1595 FIDE—so don’t expect to perform at your Lichess level in your first OTB event.

Use the table below to see how your Lichess ratings translate to typical over-the-board ratings based on thousands of survey results.
